The poles are standing together. A 44 foot rope dangling from
the shorter 74 foot pole would reach to 30 feet above the ground. A 70 foot rope
dangling from the taller 100 foot pole would also reach to 30 feet above the
ground. 44+70 = 114, the length of the rope. If the poles were moved apart the
rope would be lifted to higher than 30 feet from the ground.
