**The center of gravity is in the yellow square.

The total number of shaded squares is 140. This number represents the total number of weight units of the shape.

There are 11 shaded squares (areas of equal weight) in the first column on the left, 15 in the second column .... to 8 in the 16th column.

Starting from the first column on the left, add to it the number of shaded squares *2 in the second column, the number of shaded squares *3 in the third column .... and so on up to the number of shaded squares *16 in the 16th column. These are called 'moments'. The total of all the 'moments' along the x-axis is 1067. Divide this number by 140 and the result is 7.6. The centre of gravity along the x-axis will be in the 7th column from the left.
